School, early 20th century, built as centrepiece to the Mile Cross Estate, one of the first modern council housing estates in the country. The school was arranged with the main front behind a green acting as a backdrop to the central circus, with wings splayed to the rear enfolding the playground. Entrances were at the corners. Construction of red brick, the assembly hall with a queenpost roof.
