Summary

The cropmarks of trackway, road or boundary of unknown, but possibly post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs to the west of a series of old gravel and marl pits on Walsis Hill, Sparham. It is possible that the cropmarks represent the remains of an access track to the extraction pits, although this is not certain and the site may be of greater antiquity.

Map

December 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a trackway, road or boundary of unknown, but possibly post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs to the west of a series of old gravel and marl pits on Walsis Hill, Sparham (S1). The site is centred on TG 0843 1841.

The site consists of a pair of parallel banks and ditches, 10m across in total, with each component measuring from between 1-3m across. It is possible that the cropmarks represent the remains of an access track to the extraction pits, although this is not certain and the site may be of greater antiquity, perhaps an earlier boundary feature.
S. Massey (NMP), 19 December 2007.
