Topsoil within the area of the proposed new building was stripped, and the spoil was scanned with a metal detector. A small number of finds were recovered, including a single prehistoric worked flint; medieval, post-medieval and modern pottery sherds and a small post-medieval strap buckle. No archaeologically signficant features were observed during the subsequent excavation of 40 stanchion holes.
Footings for a bungalow were excavated in the north-east corner of the field. In the westernmost trench a linear feature was observed, and several fragments of ceramic drain pipe were noted in it's fill. This features was interpreted as an early modern field drain.
