Full Description
January 2008. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a possible trackway, linear ditches and field boundaries of unknown and medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). Two parallel linear ditch cropmarks are present on a roughly west to east alignment extending eastwards from Manor Farm. The ditches are up to 7m wide and are spaced 10m apart and have the appearance of a trackway leading straight towards Manor Farm. Three narrower and more closely spaced parallel ditches extend southwards from the eastern end of the possible trackway. These are likely to relate to a field boundary, but give the impression that both sets of ditches may have formed a large multiple-ditched enclosure surrounding the moated manorial site immediately to their south (NHER 1062). However, this is probably not the case and these cropmarks may be unrelated to the moated site. To the north of the possible trackway are cropmarks of fragmentary enclosures and fields on a similar alignment. It is possible that these cropmarks are contemporary with the trackway and multiple-ditched field boundary. The west to east and north to south aligned cropmarks in this group overlap other cropmarks on a different alignment (NHER 50840).
