Summary

Cropmarks of field boundaries, enclosures and ditches are visible on aerial photographs. The majority of the enclosures are incomplete and it is clear that several phases of activity are represented, making it difficult to determine the form and dimensions of many of them. It is likely that the cropmarks relate to medieval settlement activity and medieval to post medieval field boundaries.

Map

January 2008. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of field boundaries, enclosures and ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1). A group of rectilinear enclosures or fields are present to the southwest of the site of a medieval moated manor (NHER 1062). The majority of the enclosures are incomplete and it is clear that several phases of activity are represented, making it difficult to determine the form and dimensions of many of them. A rectilinear enclosure in the north of the group measures at least 64m by 48m internally. A small trapezoidal enclosure to its south has internal dimensions of at least 43m by 37m. Other, much larger, enclosures are probably fields. Saxon and medieval artefacts have been found in the vicinity of these cropmarks (NHER 28459). It is likely that the cropmarks relate to medieval settlement activity and medieval to post medieval field boundaries.
J. Albone (NMP), 29 January 2008.
