Map

December 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary ditches, probably the remains of field boundaries of Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs to the west of Church Farm, Billingford (S1). The site is centred on TG 0104 2062. A Roman date for these cropmarks has been suggested due to the site’s proximity to the Roman town of Billingford (NHER 7206) and the shared alignment of these features with the boundaries and enclosures forming the northern part of the settlement. Roman date material has also been recovered form the vicinity of these cropmarks. A number of the boundaries are double ditched and may therefore represent the remains of trackways that ran along the edges of fields or grazing areas. Not all of the cropmarks follow the same alignment or axis and therefore the ditches are likely to represent more than one phase of field boundaries.
