NHER 50873 (Monument record) - Cropmarks of field boundaries of unknown, but possibly late prehistoric to Roman date

A group of fragmentary cropmarks, possibly relating to former field boundaries of unknown, but possibly late prehistoric to Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Jubilee Plantation, Bylaugh (S1). The site is centred on TG 0498 1909. To the east of the site is a small fragmentary double ditched linear feature which may represent a different phase than the remainder of the boundaries. It is probable that these cropmarks are broadly contemporary with the fragmentary field system recorded to the west within Bylaugh Park (NHER 50872).

The aerial photographs of this site reveal many cropmarks of apparent geological and pedological origin, including a number of rectilinear and linear features. Only those features that could be confidently identified as archaeological were mapped. It is therefore possible that other archaeological cropmarks have gone unmapped due to them being obscured by or misidentified as being natural in origin.
