Summary

The cropmarks of rectangular enclosure of probable medieval date is visible on aerial photographs to the west of the Lynn Road at Clovelly, Shouldham Thorpe. This site is located to the immediate north of the site of Foston medieval settlement (NHER 11960). Although a historic date is considered most likely, due to the enclosures relationship to the surrounding field layout, finds of a Roman date within the general vicinity of the site (NHER 28853) could indicate a Roman date. Another enclosure of possible Roman or medieval date has been recorded approximately 300m to the northwest (NHER 50958).

The cropmarks of rectangular enclosure of probable medieval date is visible on aerial photographs to the west of the Lynn Road at Clovelly, Shouldham Thorpe (S1). This site is centred on TF 6510 1007.

The cropmarks consists of an L-shaped ditch, possibly indicating an incomplete enclosure measuring 40m across, with a possible trackway running towards it form the west. This enclosure appears to be broadly aligned the same as the existing field boundaries to the north (also parish boundary) and south of the site and the road to the east. It is therefore possible that this feature is broadly historic in date. However it is worth noting that the Roman settlement to the west at Watlington is also aligned the same as the surrounding fields and roads.
