Map

March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A multi-period cropmark site consisting of fragmentary ditches, probably the remains of several phases of field boundaries, potentially ranging in date from the later prehistoric to Roman periods, is visible on aerial photographs to the south of Thieves Bridge Road, Watlington (S1-S3). The site is centred on TF 6321 1018. Cropmarks within the area of this site that appeared to form coherent groups or phases have been recorded separately (NHER 50939, 50942). Neolithic finds have been found in the general vicinity of the cropmarks (NHER 2269, 34454). This site is located to the south of the late Iron Age to Roman settlement at Police House Field, Watlington (NHER 39457), although none of the cropmarks exhibit any obvious signs of being related to this settlement.

The site consists of dispersed and fragmentary ditches and former field boundaries. Several of the boundaries are double ditched and may therefore represent the remains of trackways, possibly associated with fields. Any cropmarks appearing to relate to post medieval field boundaries depicted on historic maps have been omitted from the mapping.
