Summary

A multi-phase cropmark site is visible on aerial photographs to the north of the late Iron Age to Roman settlement at Watlington (NHER 39458). It is likely that some components of this site are also Roman in date, however the cropmarks recorded would appear to represent more than one phase. It is possible that some of the more irregular and fragmentary components of this site may be geological in origin.

Map

March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A multi-phase cropmark site is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) to the north of the late Iron Age to Roman settlement at Watlington (NHER 39458). It is likely that some components of this site are also Roman in date, most notably the double ditched boundary and/or trackway aligned approximately N-S. Although it is also feasible that this relates to a post medieval field boundary. However the remainder of the cropmarks recorded would appear to represent features dating to other phases, all of unknown definite date. It is also possible that some of the more irregular and fragmentary components of this site, in particular those to the southeast, may be geological in origin.
