Summary

On William Hayward's map of 1626 and in the accompanying field book, precinct no. 29, was called Pottersgatefurlonge. This, and further mention of Pottersgate in the vicinity suggest that a pottery production site was located here.

On William Hayward's map of 1626 (NRO Hare Additional 6812/1, 2) and in the accompanying field book, precinct no. 29, was called Pottersgatefurlonge. At its East end lay parcel no. 367, an enclosure of 4ac 1 rood 15 perches called Pottergateclose held of the Abbott of Ramsey's manor by William Chickes. On the east side of the close lay Crumpleshaw common [in Crimplesham parish] and to the south Pottersgate [a road shown on the 1st edition OS map]. Bexwell parish lay south of Pottersgate. The west end of precinct no. 29 butted on another area of common.
