Map

Waterworks building marked on (S1) as Engine House, now domestic dwelling.
(S2) noted report of “a huge furnace” on the site in early 20th century – large amounts of clinker occur on surrounding sites – and that local lodging houses sent refuse to be burned – suggesting a steam boiler fired by domestic rubbish as at Cambridge Cheddars Lane.
Sewage pipe works in 1996 produced dozens of identical small brown glazed jugs, as well as beer and medicine bottles (S2) (S3) in file.
(S2) also notes legend of a seven foot long Roman skeleton found here – compare NHER 1275, 27157 etc adjacent.
E. Rose (NLA), 13 September 2006.
