Summary

A spigot mortar base stands just proud of the surface in grassland adjacent to the River Yare, overlooking the marshes. This is one of very few World War Two features to survive on the perimeter of Norwich.

Spigot mortar base reported, standing just proud of the surface in grassland adjacent to the River Yare and overlooking the marshes. There is no evidence of a surrounding pit, but this might be infilled. This is one of very few World War Two features to survive on the perimeter of Norwich.

The site of a World War Two spigot mortar emplacement is visible on aerial photographs (S2-S3). The site is centred on TG 2441 0690. The spigot was originally set within an elongated pit/slot and surrounded by an embankment.
