NHER 51411 (Building record) - Former Thomas Bullock Endowed School

A former school, located to the east of the village green. A date stone indicates that this buildng was constructed in 1864. Alterations to the roof were carried out in the 1940's, when the original slates were replaced with concrete interlocking slatesm redundant chimneys were reduced, and a suspended ceiling was introduced. Sometime prior to 2008 it was modified for commercial use. Changes have included the enlargement of windows overlooking the village green, the addition of glazed entrance doors, and the construction of a new entrance ramp and steps. Conversion of the building into eight housing units and restoration of the building fabric and the original slate roof are planned for 2008.

February 2009.
Planning application revised. The building will now be converted into 7 residential units.

October 2012. Building Survey.
The school was constructed in 1749 and an attached teachers house was added in 1864. It was enlarged in 1875, 1893 and 1899 to house more children. The school closed in 1992 and the pupils moved to a new school building in Shipdham. The property was sold to Mr Dodd and the playing field sold to Shipdham Parish Council. The School building is now unoccupied and the teachers house is tenanted.
