Summary

Several items dating from World War Two, thought to be soldiers' "hoards", including an unused wedding dress sent from Canada still in its packaging, letters and ammunition, found beneath the floor and reported by the owners.

Casual find 2006. Found beneath floor of 50 Greevegate, a house originally constructed as a convalescent home in the late 19th century and used as a billet for troops in the Second World War.
Several soldiers’ “hoards” carefully hidden including an unused wedding dress still in its packaging and sent from Canada; a number of letters in which passages had been censored out; and 15 dum-dum bullets (use of which was contrary to Geneva Convention; these were given to local police who destroyed them). The garden of the house contained a large number of brass cartridge cases.
