Full Description
Early 18th century brick barn; braced tiebeams, cart porches to two threshing floors; later horse box infill and subdivision. Contemporary stable for ten horses and cart lodge. Late 19th century stables and sheds. Good example of an 18th century farmstead part redeveloped in typical Evans-Lombe Estate fashion in 19th century with emphasis on heavy horses.
(S1) in file also states this is the site of Algarsthorpe deserted village, and the site of a priory; the present farmhouse dates to the 13th century and cinder beds discovered mark a monastic central heating system. This is incorrect; there is no record of any priory in the parish and the correct site of the deserted village is NHER9272.
E. Rose (NLA), 19 December 2006.
