Map

The results of a systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey undertaken in March-April 2008 are now recorded under NHER 60330.
P. Watkins (HES), 28 May 2019.

September-November 2008. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable (Trench 5).
The single trench excavated at this location revealed an east-to-west aligned ditch. Although no finds were recovered this feature appeared to be sealed by a subsoil layer, suggesting it was probably of medieval or earlier date. The subsoil itself was regarded as evidence of medieval open-field agriculture.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details. This work is also noted in (S3).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 2 June 2019.

2009-2010. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping and other groundworks associated with installation of the Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable.
A second undated east-to-west aligned ditch was recorded during this phase of work.
Several medieval coils were recovered from the subsoil layer.
Final report awaited. See assessment report (S2) for further details. This work is also noted in (S3).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 2 June 2019.

A combined archive comprising material from both phases of archaeological work at this site has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.361).
P. Watkins (HES), 2 June 2019.
