Summary

A watching brief maintained during groundworks at this site in 2009/2010 recorded a pit and a ditch, neither of which produced any dating evidence. It was however noted that the ditch appeared to be sealed by a subsoil layer, suggesting it was potentially of medieval or earlier date.

The results of a field survey undertaken in March-April 2008 are now recorded under NHER 35207.
P. Watkins (HES), 5 June 2019.

2009-2010. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping and other groundworks associated with installation of the Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable.
A pit and a ditch were recorded at this location, both of which were undated. It was however noted that the ditch appeared to be sealed by the subsoil layer present in this field, suggesting it was probably of some antiquity.
The subsoil deposit itself was seen as potentially evidence of medieval open-field agriculture.
Final report awaited. See assessment report (S1) for further details. This work is also noted in (S2).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.361).
