Summary

A fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey of part of this field in 2008 recovered a range of finds including a single prehistoric worked flint; Late Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval pantiles; a post-medieval clay tobacco pipe fragment and a number of post-medieval and undatable metal objects.

March-April 2008. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey on proposed route of Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection (Field 8).
Finds recovered included:
1 prehistoric retouched flint flake.
2 Late Saxon pottery sherds.
15 medieval pottery sherds.
1 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd.
1 ?medieval/post-medieval pottery sherd.
1 post-medieval pottery sherd, 2 pantiles, 2 copper alloy buttons, 1 washer and 1 clay tobacco pipe fragment.
1 ?post-medieval roof tile.
1 undatable copper alloy wire fragment, 1 copper alloy ?strap fitting, 1 copper alloy sheet rolled around iron core, 1 iron rod, 1 iron unidentified object, and 1 lead unidentified object.
A dense spread of probable post-medieval or modern ceramic building material was noted near the north-eastern entrance to the field, but was not collected.
