Summary

Archaeological work at this site between 2008 and 2010 revealed a number of linear features of probable medieval to post-medieval date. These remains were all exposed during trial trenching in 2008 and included a series of parallel probable furrows that were possibly the result of medieval agriculture. The ditch produced no dating evidence but was probably a more recent feature. No further archaeologically-significant features or deposits were recorded during the monitoring of subsequent groundworks in 2009/2010.

September-November 2008. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable (Trench 121).
The single trench excavated at this location revealed a series of parallel north-west to south-east aligned features interpreted as furrows and a north-north-east to south-south-west aligned ditch. The subsoil layer present and the furrows were seen as evidence for medieval open-field agriculture. The ditch was thought to represent a later phase of activity.
Several finds were recovered from unstratified contexts, including three prehistoric flint flake, a ?prehistoric burnt flint and a Roman pottery sherd.
