Summary

Marked on first edition Ordnance Survey map as The Mount, shown with building on top, circular pond to east. Area marked as The Wilderness and to north was Pleasure Farm. In 1995 this mound stands in a recreation ground and has terraced walks round it and supports a childrens’ slide. The pond has gone. No visible evidence that this was an icehouse; more probably a prospect mound supporting a summerhouse as part of a wilderness garden formed after 1840 and before 1880.
