Summary

Bronze Age barrow, with a mound about 8m in diameter and surviving to a height of 0.7m. Consulation of the lidar data for the area of this previously recorded barrow did not reveal any convincing evidence of a mound at this location. A sub-circular/oblong mound of approximately the right dimensions was apparent 18m to the west, but was interpreted as a soilheap. However the evidence is not conclusive and it may represent the previously recorded barrow.

Map

February and April 2008. Field visits.
Bowl barrow, with a mound about 8m in diameter and surviving to a height of 0.7m.
Schedule (S1) in file.
Formerly recorded under NHER 25487. During the field visits it was determined that this mound is not the barrow recorded as HER 25487 in 1989, but it is the barrow recorded in the Scheduling Report of 1997 (S1). Consequently, the barrow recorded in 1989 remains as NHER 25487 and this mound has been recorded separately as NHER 51529.

March 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
Consulation of the lidar data (S3) for the area of this previously recorded barrow did not reveal any convincing evidence of a mound at this location. A sub-circular/oblong mound of approximately the right dimensions was apparent 18m to the west (at TL 7695 9104). However the lidar would suggest that it is located on top of the edge of historic quarrying activity and as such it was interpreted as a soilheap. However the evidence is not conclusive and it may represent the previously recorded barrow. It has not been mapped.
