Map

April 2008. Desk-based Assessment.
A search of documentary sources demonstrated that there has been continuous expansion of made ground into the river in this area from c.1100 to 1800, and that development of the area would have an impact on post medieval jetties and riverside building evidence, which may be extant at the western end of the site.

June 2008. Trial Trench.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
Large amounts of post-medieval material were recovered from the single trench excavated in this area. Some of these deposits comprise sorted rubble and may relate to land reclamation in the 17th-18th centuries. A floor and wall, both constructed of brick, are the remains of a building erected on top of the reclaimed land. A ruined building to the north of the excavated area may be contemporary.
See report (S2) for further details.
