Summary

This is the site of a national school constructed in 1860 and enlarged several times during the late 19th century. It is visible on a map of 1883, but it fell out of use in 1937 when a school was provided in a more central location of the suburb.

Map

'School' marked on (S1) but gone by 1938. Site is now under a widened road and perhaps the edge of the adjacent park. (S2) gives references to a mixed national school erected in 1860 and enlarged in 1873, 1885, 1891 and 1904. These probably refer to this site as no other school is shown on the maps of these periods. The 1873 enlargement was funded by John Gurney who lived in the Hall adjacent to the site. A new school was provided in 1937 in a more central location of the suburban settlement that had grown up.
See (S2) in secondary file.
