Full Description
Field Survey, September 1987.
Barn dated 1878, constructed of brick and clunch, perhaps with traces of older building, and with evidence of original sliding doors which is unusual. These also appear on one other building. Stables or cow houses and other buildings of a similar structure also with possible older fragments. Main stables for two horses, said to be built of shale (this is improbable), dating to the mid 19th century. They retain the wooden stalls divided into two teams of horses, one extra stall and two tack rooms. Possible gig house, trap house and riding stable. This is a large Hare Estate central farm and the date 1878 probably relates to the whole, as a surveyor in 1847 commented that there was too much thatch and there is no thatch now. Current GIS mapping suggests that further demolition has since taken place.
