Summary

A group of World War Two military structures is visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs, the majority of which would appear to be nissen huts. A number of smaller structures also visible may be the remains of surface air raid shelters, although this is not certain.

Map

October 2002, Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two military structures is visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1). Six military huts are visible, five of which are arranged in a linear pattern from TG 0771 4361 to TG 0775 4361. Another hut is located at TG 0772 4361. These huts all have curved profile huts, measuring approximately 10m by 4m. These are likely to be temporary structures and are probably nissen huts. Four other structures are visible, these to be concrete or stonework. A rectangular structure, measuring 5m by 3m is located at TG 0772 4359. Three 4m by 2m structures are visible to the west of the site at TG 0775 4359, TG 0776 4359 and TG 0776 4358. The function of these smaller structures is not known, but it is possible that they were surface air raid shelters. The larger nissen type huts are likely to be for army accommodation.
