The site was used for gravel extraction from 1941, and opened as a cement works from 1944. It provided concrete for North Sea oil rigs, high rise flats in London, the Channel Tunnel and many motorway bridges until its closure in 1992.
The site was repurposed as a diverse industrial estate as of 1993.
