Map

May-July 2008. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of surface water drain.
The remains of a post-medieval brick wall were observed at this location. This wall was of probable 19th-century date and was similar to walls observed in the first of the evaluation trenches excavated to the west (NHER 50403). It was probably part of a structure associated with Pockthorpe Brewery, which lay on both sides of Barrack Street (then Pockthorpe Street).
See report (S1) for further detail. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
