Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting at this location between 1997 and 2024 recovered a Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Late Saxon and medieval coins; a medieval jetton; a post-medieval token and a range of other, Late Saxon to medieval/post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include a Late Saxon buckle and bridle side-link from horse harness; medieval buckles and a silver finger ring and a medieval/post-medieval buckle, a rumbler bell, copper alloy possible vessel repair and lead weights.

Includes area of former earthworks HER 1923.

The mapped extent of this record was previously much larger, extending into the fields to the west and east. This larger former extent reflected information supplied following the 1997 fieldwalking (see above) but it appears that most (if not all) finds recovered at this time (and all subsequent discoveries) were from the field surrounding NHER 1923 [3].
