Summary

Metal-detecting between 2008 and 2017 recovered Roman and medieval pottery sherds; fragments of undated (possible Roman or medieval) limestone roof tile; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons; a post-medieval token and Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. Metal finds include Roman brooches, a copper alloy finger ring and a furniture fitting; an Early Saxon gold pendant, a buckle frame, wrist clasp fragment and several brooches (including a florid cruciform brooch and two fragments of a silver Great square-headed or Continental bow brooch); a Middle/Late Saxon belt mount and strap-end; Late Saxon finger ring or earring; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval finger ring and scale-tang knife end-cap; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy rings, a lead weight and "paper clip" rivet and a post-medieval harness mount.

The Early Saxon silver brooch fragments and the medieval silver finger ring were submitted as potential Treasure (Treasure cases 2012 T84 and 2012 T83 respectively). The brooch fragments were declared Treasure at inquest on 19 November 2012 and subsequently donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2013.113). See updated Treasure report in file.
