Summary

A double-ditched enclosure is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. It is possible that this feature dates to the Iron Age to Roman period, as it is on a similar alignment to a probable Iron Age to Roman enclosure to the south (NHER 51940), but it is also possible that it dates to the medieval to post medieval period.

Map

November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A possible double-ditched enclosure is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2938 1153. The enclosure measures 93m by 86m externally, and appears to have a possible entrance at its southeast corner. It is possible that this feature dates to the Iron Age to Roman period, as it is on a similar alignment to a possible Iron Age to Roman enclosure to the south (NHER 51940), but it is also possible that it dates to the medieval to post medieval period.

It is difficult to tell how this feature relates to the complex area of multi-period cropmarks (NHER 51942) that surround it, although one of the linear features to the northwest corner of the enclosure appears to respect the enclosure’s position and could therefore suggest that the enclosure pre-dates these ditches.
