Map

November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A possible sub-square enclosure, of unknown but possibly Iron Age to Roman date, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 2985 1170. It appears to be earlier in date than an adjacent area of multi-period cropmarks (NHER 51948).

The enclosure is defined by a 2m wide ditch and measures up to 70m wide by 61m in length. It has one relatively clear entrance located at its southwest corner, at TG 2982 1168. It is located on the western edge, and therefore may respect the course of a paleochannel, which is visible running north-south through the area, suggesting that it may have been in use before the other features in the area (NHER 51948), which are visible in the centre of the paleochannel. A medieval to post medieval date for this feature cannot be ruled out, however.
E. Bales (NMP), 18 November 2008.
