Map

November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of at least two possible enclosures of possible Iron Age to Roman date, along with undated linear and curvilinear ditch features of more than one phase are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3082 1120.

The northern-most possible enclosure, centred at TG 3081 1137, has an asymmetrical plan. It is defined by a 2m wide ditch only visible on three sides and has maximum external dimensions of 74m by 72m. It is likely that this enclosure is of Iron Age to Roman date and may relate to a settlement of that period. Similar enclosure cropmarks are present 76m to the northwest (NHER 45119) and 538m to the southwest (NHER 45122).

A second possible enclosure is visible, centred at TG 3078 1104, measuring externally 48m by at least 50m. It is also visible on only three sides, but may have been truncated by later field boundaries. There appear to be associated linear features on either side of this feature, suggesting that it formed part of a field system, possibly of Iron Age to Roman date.

It is clear that the visible linear features represent more than one phase of activity, and that at least one of these, stretching for 187m from TG 3063 1107 to TG 3083 1111 is on a similar alignment to the medieval to post medieval features recorded as NHER 45123, 350m to the west. It is therefore possible that one or more of the linear features date to the medieval to post medieval period.
E. Bales (NMP), 27 November 2008.

November 2015. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site immediately to west of cropmarks.
One trench coincided with the western end of the cropmark running between TG 3065 1107 and TG30831111. A potentially corresponding ditch was identified but unfortunately no dating evidence was recovered.
See NHER 64892 for further details.
