Map

November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A cropmark of a D-shaped enclosure of possible Iron Age to Roman date is visible on aerial photographs (S1). This cropmark is centred on TG 2878 1038. The enclosure has an asymmetrical D-shaped plan. It is defined by a narrow ditch without any visible entrances and has maximum external dimensions of 45m by 26m. It is likely that this enclosure is of Iron Age to Roman date and may relate to a settlement of that period. A similar enclosure cropmark is present 610m to the northeast (NHER 51940). The feature described here overlaps, and is presumably cut by, a linear cropmark that has been dated to the medieval to post medieval period (NHER 51956).
This site lies within the NAU evalution area recorded as NHER 49755.
E. Bales (NMP), 28 November 2008.

March-June 2009. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey on proposed line of the Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Site G6).
This survey failed to identify any evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with this possible enclosure.
See report (S2) and NHER 62531 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 27 July 2018.

April-May 2015. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field G6).
Although two of the trenches excavated coincided with this cropmark there was no evidence for associated sub-surface remains. It should be noted that this work did identify ditches that appeared to correspond with a number of the other cropmarks recorded in this field (NHER 51956).
See report (S3) and NHER 62531 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 11 July 2019.
