January 2009. Building Survey.
Level 2 survey of agricultural buildings at Church Farm Barn, prior to their proposed conversion.
Five buildings were identifed, the earliest of which was a mid 19th-century threshing barn. It is likely that the barn was originally designed as a large stables, and that geometric vents, a central threshing floor and large cart doors were inserted to convert the building to a threshing barn. A small recessed cupboard to the north of the eastern barn doors would have contained a horn or other recepacle containing grease for the linkage on the flails. 'God save [G or E] the King' has been painted on the interior above the western entrance. Additonal buildings of brick and flint construction were added to this threshing barn, and by the late 19th century a partially enclosed courtyard had developed to the west. The additional buildings all apear to have been designed to house animals. A large open-fronted barn was constructed in the 20th century.
See report (S1) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2016.151).
