Map

2008. Test-pitting.
An Iron Age ditch was excavated in test pit eight. It was possibly a settlement boundary or an enclosure and was kept in use over long periods of time as there is evidence for recutting. In the early Roman period the ditch was deliberately backfilled. The feature curved through the test pit, orientated north east – south west and measured 0.6m in width and 0.5m in depth. Finds excavated from the ditch include burnt flint and waste flakes. Four sherds of Late Iron Age pottery were excavated from this feature.
Two sherds of post medieval pottery were also excavated in the upper contexts with Hedingham Ware and Glazed Red Earthenware recorded, but the majority of the pottery excavated dates to the Victorian period with 15 sherds of pottery identified.
See (S1) for further information.
