April 2008-June 2010. Trial Trenching and Watching Brief.
Fieldwork undertaken prior to and during the excavation of a new soke dyke as part of the Broadland Flood Alleviation Project (Compartment 11).
A number of initial trial trenches were excavated at the eastern end of this site due to the proximity of a probable medieval saltern mound (NHER 21103). These revealed no archaeologically-significant remains, so the excavation of the dyke proceeded as planned. A watching brief maintained during these works also recorded nothing of interest. There was no evidence for surviving remains associated with a north-to-south aligned ditch or channel visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs at TG 4578 0987 (part of a group of potentially medieval to post-medieval features recorded as NHER 42405).
No finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
