Map

April 2009. Building Survey.
Level 2 survey of agricultural buildings at The Grange, ahead of proposed renovation and conversion works.
Out of the 15 agricultural structures at this location the stable block to the north appears to be the earliest structure dating from at least the 1840s and is shown on the 1840s tithe map. Between the tithe map and the 1st edition map ordnance survey map a considerable amount of development took place on the site and the brick threshing barn was probably one of the next buildings to be constructed. The building attached to the western side of the threshing barn was probably built shortly afterwards to accommodate a small number of cattle, which was increased by the construction of a further two cattle sheds and a cattle yard to the south. A cart shed and equipment store was constructed in the south-east of the site with an adjacent workshop probably used for maintenance of equipment and carts that seems to take advantage of the already exisiting buildings to economise on the number of walls required to be constructed. Three small buildings likely to have been in existence by the 1880s are the two rectangular buildings to the west and a small square shed attached to the western side of the main range of buildings. The stable block buildings cannot be confidently identified until the 1906 ordnance survey mapping and these were constructed to enclose a small yard to the south-east.
