January 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated features including a moat, field boundaries, enclosures and trackways are visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S6) on land to the south west of Beck Farm, Wymondham.
The probable moat is trapezoidal in plan, centred on TG 0895 0070, and measures 53m by 50m externally, the moat itself measures up to 8m in width, and appears to enclose an area of 42m by 41m. A possible pond or inlet is visible to the southwest side, and the moat is orientated north west-southeast.
The moat fits within an area of possible enclosures or field boundaries, visible to the north west and to the east. The ‘enclosures’ appear to be additional to other linear ditches which are visible on the Tithe Map (S8), and have therefore been assigned a medieval to post medieval date.
E. Bales (NMP), January 2010.
