Full Description
March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of two possible World War Two practice trenches are visible on aerial photographs (S1) at TG 2625 0930, to the rear of former farm buildings. They are visible as freshly dug, open trenches, up to 18m in length, one of which is an oblique v-shape and varies in width from 0.4 -1.7m. Situated 13m apart, they may represent Home Guard training activity, or could possibly represent simple air raid shelters, known as ‘Munich trenches’ (S2), many of which were dug in back gardens, especially in the early stages of World War Two.
E. Bales (NMP), 13 March 2009.
