Map

April 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two practice slit trench was recognised on aerial photographs (S1) in the north west corner of Crown Point Park (NHER 37582), to the south of Whitlingham Lane, centred at TG 2510 0747.
The trench measures approximately 27m in length, although it has zig-zags at the south-western end. The trench is approximately 1.7m in width, and an earthwork bank created by the spoil is visible on its southern side, measuring approximately 1.3m in width.
This trench would appear to relate to training, and it may be associated with a barrage balloon site 260m to the south east (NHER 52081). Certainly the two sites appear to be contemporary, both in use in 1942.
E. Bales (NMP), 7 April 2009.
