Map

May 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Three sides of a possible enclosure are visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S4), centred at TG 2806 0937. This sub-rectangular feature measures approximately 115m by 75m externally, and is divided by a north-south ditch, which may have been part of a trackway leading away from the enclosure. A second north-south ditch, approximately 11m away, runs parallel to it for a short distance, from TG 2805 0944 to TG 2804 0939. A curvilinear ditch on the north side of enclosure seems to coincide with a possible entrance at TG 2805 0937, and may relate to an annexe or entrance feature, perhaps acting to accentuate the architecture of the entrance to this possible enclosure or farmstead.

This site exhibits similarities to the enclosures described as part of an Iron Age to Roman field system at Heacham (NHER 13032 and 42520) during the NMP Coastal mapping, and with rectilinear enclosures dated to the Iron Age to Roman period in West Lincolnshire (S5). There is no clear association with the post medieval cropmarks recorded to the north (NHER 51938), but this does not preclude a later date for the features described above.
