Full Description
June 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Several undated fragmentary linear features are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1) on land to the west of Green Lane North, Thorpe St Andrew. The site is centred on TG 2808 1033.
These features are fragmentary, and therefore difficult to be certain of, as they are only visible on one set of photographs. However, it is possible that they represent one or more field boundary, along with a fragment of possible trackway, at TG 2804 1038, visible as two parallel ditches, 1.9m apart. It is possible that they are related to features recorded 350m to the south (NHER 51938), and have therefore been tentatively assigned a medieval to post medieval date.
E. Bales (NMP), 02 June 2009.
December 2016. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of possible development area.
This survey revealed no anomalies likely to represent surviving sub-surface features associated with the cropmarks recorded in this field. It should however be noted that it also failed to identify any evidence for a range of ditches and other features that were exposed during subsequent trial trenching in this field.
See report (S2) and NHER 62536 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 12 February 2018.
