Map

July 2006. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of proposed route of Witton to North Walsham Anglian Water pipeline.
The suggested route passes through an area that may be considered to be archaeologically sensitive. The rich farmland has been subject to occupation and settlement certainly from the Neolithic and a large number of prehistoric and later features are known in the area.
See report (S1) for further details.
Previously recorded under NHER 49123.
J. Allen (NLA), 17 May 2007. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 27 July 2015.

January-February 2007. Strip Map and Sample Excavation and Watching Brief.
Fieldwork along route of pipeline (Area E):
Three small pits were recorded, all of which contained charcoal-rich deposits.
A probable 17th-18th century brick kiln was found in this area and measured 5.2m by 3.2m. This kiln is relatively close to the known area of the brick kiln industry at Brick Kiln Farm to the south-west (NHER 15877).
See final report (S2) and assessment report (S3) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S4).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.115).
A. Cattermole (NLA), 6 July 2009. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 May 2019.
