Summary

Sporadic metal-detecting in 2009 and 2014 recovered Roman coins as well as undated, Iron Age, Roman to Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include an undatable copper alloy casting jet; a fragment of a Late Iron Age tankard handle; a Late Iron Age/Roman terret; a Roman dolphin brooch and a figurine of Mercury; an Early/Middle Saxon incomplete copper alloy Coptic bowl; an Early Saxon strap fitting; a medieval belt mount and a post-medieval furniture fitting, hooked tag and shoulder bolster from whittle tang knife. The artefacts were discovered within crop marks of possible Iron Age/Roman field systems and may suggest the presence of a Roman settlement.
