NHER 52979 (Find Spot record) - Medieval and post-medieval to modern finds

June 2009. Test Pit.
Excavation of single test pit by local school children as part of the Higher Education Field Academy (HEFA) programme run by Access Cambridge Archaeology.
This test pit (ACL/09/10) was located at [1] and excavated to natural geological deposits, which were encountered at a depth of 0.9m.
Finds recovered include:
3 medieval pottery sherds.
6 post-medieval pottery sherds.
43 late post-medieval/modern pottery sherds.
This test pit also produced a range of other finds that were not subject to specialist examination, the majority of which are either of probable late post-medieval to modern date or inherently undatable. These additional objects include 4 curved tile fragments, a tile fragment, a ?tile fragment, a brick fragment, 60 unidentified ceramic building material fragments, 2 slate fragments, pieces of bottle, vessel and window glass, 16 iron nails, an iron bolt, 25 pieces of scrap iron, 3 pieces of iron slag and an animal bone fragment.
It is noted that there was evidence for considerable recent disturbance, with concrete, breeze block fragments and other finds of obviously modern date present within the majority of the excavated spits.
