Map

October 2009. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The four trenches excavated revealed a small number of features, including several pits or linear features of possible medieval date.
The one definite ditch was an undated east-north-east to west-south-west feature in the northern half of the site. A pit or similarly-aligned ditch exposed to the north contained a small amount of medieval pottery. Medieval pottery was also recovered from a short north-to-south aligned linear feature to the south, along with a single late medieval/early post-medieval sherd. A partially exposed adjoining pit or linear feature also contained medieval pottery.
Unstratified finds included a small number of medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds, a fragment of polished granite (perhaps from a Victorian wash stand) and a modern iron object.
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2016.37 and possibly also NWHCM : 2011.292).
