Summary

A primary school built in 1911 to accommodate 280 children in infant and junior classes. The building is of Bawsey red brick and was designed in the form of a square with a drill yard at its centre.

The school was built in the early 1900s and is a two-storey construction of red brick with a slate roof. It is planned to construct a nursery school in the existing grounds, and to replace all timber framed windows and doors in the existing building with aluminium frames.

According to (S4) this school was St James' Infants and Girls Primary School, which opened on Paxton Terrace in 1911. The school was built in the form of a square with an enclosed drill yard in the centre. The external walls were of Bawsey brick. The school had two departments (infants and juniors) and accommodated 280 children with a headteacher and six assistant teachers.
