Map

October 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A series of undated linear ditches were visible as positive cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 1629 2000. These features may relate to medieval to post medieval land division or drainage, and the only finds recovered from this area were a medieval buckle and two post-medieval jettons (NHER 52806).
It is possible, however, that more than one phase of features is visible (S3), as the slightly fainter linear feature running south west-north east from TG 1627 2009 to TG 1630 2011 appears to be cut by the larger ditch features that line up with surviving earthworks in the field to the east (S3), and in turn the faint ditch running north west-south east from TG 1623 2006 to TG 1632 2002 may be cutting these possible drainage ditches, and may relate to a later field boundary.
Vegetation marks in the field to the south have also been included with these features, as the parallel ditches running north-south from TG 1628 1987 to TG 1628 1981 approximately 8.3m apart may relate to a former trackway; a footpath is visible running between these features (S4) and may indicate a continuation in use. However, it seems more likely that these features perform a drainage function, running perpendicular to a modern drainage ditch.
