Summary

An undated polygonal enclosure is visible on aerial photographs. The feature is similar in morphology, although larger in size, to that recorded at Witton (NHER 39223), which was ascribed a postulated Iron Age to Roman date, and another at Carleton St Peter (NHER 17290) which appears to overlie field systems of an Iron Age to Roman date. It is possible that this enclosure is of Iron Age to Roman date, although an earlier prehistoric or Anglo-Saxon date need not be ruled out. It is also possible that this enclosure also overlies linear ditch features that may be of a late prehistoric date (NHER 52340), although the features in this area are fragmentary and difficult to see against the background geology.

Map

October 2009. Norfolk NMP.
An undated possible pentagonal enclosure is visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 1641 1945. The enclosure measures up to 61m x 55m internally, 65m x 59m overall, and may have a possible entrance halfway down its western side, although it is difficult to be certain as the archaeological features appear to be somewhat fainter in this area.
The feature is similar in morphology, although larger in size, to that recorded at Witton (NHER 39223), which was ascribed a postulated Iron Age to Roman date, and another at Carleton St Peter (NHER 17290) which appears to overlie field systems of an Iron Age to Roman date. It is also possible that this enclosure also overlies linear ditch features that may be of a late prehistoric date (NHER 52340), although the features in this area are fragmentary and difficult to see against the background geology, and are only visible on one photograph.
